Short Story Snippet

I've decided to be brave and post a piece of one of my nearly completed short stories.  This is a tale about a woman, her two children and an encounter with a stranger.     Though comments are appreciated I'm in no way soliciting free critiques.  I'm hoping to find a literary journal who will accept this story, though I'm as prepared as I can be for repeated rejections.  " Whatcha  got there?"  The sound of his voice startled  both of the kids , and Missy let out a little chirp of a scream.        "You scared us!" yelped Travis.         "We didn't know you were there!"  Missy prodded the crab with her toe.  "I think he's dead" she told the white-haired man, who smiled at her innocence.        "Do you  kids  live nearby?" the old man asked.        "Over there" Travis offered, pointing without taking his eyes  off of  the crab.     "Mom says she doesn't want us talking to strangers"  Missy

Is It Just Me, Or...

... are there other writer/bloggers out there who turn to their blog instead of doing any actual creative writing?  I have a tendency to sign into one or the other of my 3 blogs when I should be completing & polishing any of my dozens of flash pieces I've started.   I know there are countless articles and millions of thoughts out there on writer's block, procrastination, etc., but I'd love to hear from others how you push yourself to get down to the nitty gritty of actual writing.  Anything?

Opening Post- Here Goes

I know, I know, you're thinking to yourself, "Yay goody, another wannabe writer's blog."   I'm supposed to be making myself write more because I'm such a procrastinator, and what do I do?  Start another blog.  Sure, it can be a time waster, but I figure at least I'm writing something, right? Over the years I've amassed a trove of bits and pieces, things that I want to give life to one day in hopes they'll become something worthy of being published.  Somewhere.  Anywhere.  I had one flash piece published in a lesser-known lit mag a few years ago and I've submitted another to a couple of other journals, but I've yet to get anything published "for real". I remember telling myself just before turning fifty that I'd get something published by the time I hit the big 50 .  Riiight.  Flash forward about a decade and, well...
