Is It Just Me, Or...

 ... are there other writer/bloggers out there who turn to their blog instead of doing any actual creative writing?  I have a tendency to sign into one or the other of my 3 blogs when I should be completing & polishing any of my dozens of flash pieces I've started.  

I know there are countless articles and millions of thoughts out there on writer's block, procrastination, etc., but I'd love to hear from others how you push yourself to get down to the nitty gritty of actual writing.  Anything?

    Hi, PFT!

    First, let me thank you again for visiting Shady's Place. You are always welcome there and I hope you'll stop in again soon. Second, while I have several other blogger friends who are published authors, I do not fit into that category. For almost 13 years, all of my writing has been devoted exclusively to my two blogs. My style of blogging (as an art form) serves as a creative outlet. Moreover I love to entertain, cultivate and nurture friendships and generate goodwill. Residents of Central Florida, Mrs. Shady and I visited Asheville, NC, last September. We explored the downtown district, visited the BLM kiosk in the square, browsed through those cool gift shops and had lunch at one of the cafes. It's a lovely city, a progressive oasis in that part of the state.

    That's about all I can offer, my friend. If you are just getting started with this blog, you might want to check out the list of followers in the right sidebar of my blog. Several of them are published authors. Strike up a friendship and I'm sure they will be happy to offer the advice you are seeking.

I most certainly will revisit your blog over time and will take your advice on visiting others from your sidebar in addition to others I find. Yes, Asheville is remarkable without question.     I haven't written prose for more months than I can count. ~sigh~ The state of the world sapped my creative juices. I am grateful for my blogger friends, at least, sharing all our ups and downs. Best wishes!

      Thank you for checking out my blog, Darla. I know this past year + has been tiresome and a struggle for many. I also know it's easier said than done, but don't let it get at your creative juices to the point where you stop writing altogether. As I've said, at least you have your blog, right? Things will improve with time, and in the meantime keep up the blogging. You have some very creative ways with words from what I've read so far. Thank you again.

    Thanks for stopping by my blog. You will see that indeed it is my "piddling" creative outlet. I really don't write anything major right now. I use work as my excuse - a day on the computer and I'm done. Not a good excuse. Good luck with sticking to the course and actually writing. Have fun with it.

    Hi PFT - I just write odds and ends that I feel like - and as long as I carry on getting engagement (ie commenters) ... that's my way forward. I do enter a few 'challenges' or blog hops - just to join in and support others. But other than that ... the blog posts pop up as and when ... stay safe - Hilary

    Thanks Martha - I did the Challenge for 8 years ... but decided I didn't need to do it any more ... last year was 2018 ... now I do a few other things ... I've been with many of 'this crowd' for more than 10 years ... but thanks for thinking of me - cheers Hilary

  Are you afraid to die?   During a recent hike I thought about this, and the notion has taken up residence in my head since then.  A trail my wife and I were on had a section that was quite hazardous with slick, moss-carpeted rocks and a steep downward slope on one side.  As happens often my imagination got the best of me, and I envisioned myself slipping on the rocks and dropping over the edge, my scream echoing off the surrounding mountains we'd been admiring only minutes earlier. (Cruisin' on the) Beer B(l)oat

  My wonderful, loving, caring much younger wife has helped me over the years convert my beerlove from an almost-12-pack-a-night cheap lite shit habit to a more refined occasional local-microbrew-or-two per week one, and my health's all the better for it.  Honestly.  I'm healthier and feel better in my fifties than I did in my twenties and thirties thanks to her.   Between the above-mentioned habit shift and an almost 80 lb. weight loss over a few years I quite literally owe her my life.  Stepping on our scale is a morning routine, and this morning I found myself feeling bloated while undressing for my shower.  Yesterday we picked up a sixer of one of many awesome local Octoberfests (wifey's a fiend) now that they're coming out, and we each sipped a couple while Netflixing and enjoying an intensely heavy thunderstorm.   So this morning I stripped naked and, after observing my paunch in the mirror reluctantly stepped on the old honesty meter.  Disappointed? Paying Tribute to What, I'm Not Exactly Sure

I'm trying to determine whether this is a record review, a rant or a sad nod to a failing memory- I've had a love/hate relationship with Elton John since the early seventies.  I wish I could remember which of his fantastic hits was the first I'd heard, or where/when, exactly, I heard it.  Sadly, my brain has failed me over the years, and these are among the memories that have slipped into a void, never to be retrieved. I used to be the proud owner of a gargantuan vinyl collection, a good portion of which was the majority of Elton's catalog.  One of the very first albums I bought was "11-17-70", his first live album, broadcast by WABC in New York.   "Sixty Years On", one of my all-time favorites, is a fantastic tune which takes the studio version 10 steps further in my opinion, though both versions have their own qualities.
